Our Mission:

In an ever changing social and political climate, the Canadian Pest Management Association's mission is to be the leading unified voice in the structural pest management industry across Canada, representing, promoting and fostering the advancement of our industry throughout the nation and to be recognized for the legacy we leave due to our contribution to the quality of life.

  • We will promote our industry in a professional and ethical manor with emphasis on honesty, fairness and respectfulness between and amongst our members and our customers.
  • We will foster our industry through training and communication in order to sustain it's profitability, responsibility and competence.
  • We will provide a venue for social interaction and networking thereby contributing to the future development of the industry.

  • A Brief History

During the war years, pest control industry participants realized the importance of a closer liaison with government officials in formulating controls of insects, rodents, bacteria, decontamination of war chemicals and fuel rationing.

In 1942, P. Henri Maheu, president of Mysto Inc. (QC), welcomed any interested party to attend a provisional meeting in Montreal. Invitations were extended to members of the pest control industry, government officials, universities and colleges, health departments and suppliers. The response from across Canada was overwhelming; even the National Pest Control Association was represented by its founder and Executive Secretary, William Buettner and Harvey Sturgeon, President.

Those in attendance quickly established a Board of Directors and nominated an Executive (also a founding father, E. Bellemare) who in turn instituted a Constitution and By-Laws, and a Code of Ethics; formulated the groundwork for a quarterly newsletter; and compiled a membership and suppliers roster. With the permission of Monsignor Olivier Mauriault, Rector of the University of Montreal, the assistance of Professor Eddy Bellemare and Father O. Fournier, plans were laid for the association’s first conference in 1943. Since that date successful and informative conferences have been held yearly in other areas of Canada.

The association itself has made great strides in educating the public and making them aware of the many things that the pest control industry does, making its members aware of the concerns and risks of the pesticides used and the correct handling; and consulting with government officials with regard to implementation and maintenance of regulations.

Our thanks to those who have contributed their valuable time and effort toward the association’s success.
